Prepare a lighting BOQ for a quote
A bill of quantities (BOQ) turns a lighting layout into an orderable list. The most useful version makes it clear what each line includes. “Downlight, 12 W, 40 pieces” leaves important decisions open: beam, finish, driver, dimming and even the ceiling cut-out.
1 / Give every fixture a reference
Use the same reference on the plan, fixture schedule and BOQ, such as L01. Add the model or SKU if already selected. Include the drawing revision and date so quantities are priced against the same information. Separate different finishes or outputs into their own lines.
- State quantity, mounting type, dimensions or cut-out, finish and installation zone.
- Include lumen output, beam angle, colour temperature and colour rendering where specified.
- Record required exposure protection and any project-specific technical approval requirements.
2 / List the parts around the fixture
State whether the driver is included, remote or integral, and name the dimming protocol if needed. For track systems, include track lengths, feeds, connectors and end caps. For linear lighting, include profiles, diffusers, end pieces and lengths; note whether cutting and assembly are part of the request.
3 / Make scope and delivery explicit
Identify the site, project stage, requested delivery dates and any phased quantities. Say whether you need supply only or a separate design, installation or commissioning proposal. Mark approved-equivalent options clearly and request an itemised comparison of differences rather than silently replacing a specified model.
4 / Compare the quotation line by line
Check exact models, quantities, accessories, taxes, delivery charges, payment terms and exclusions. Ask for stock or lead time to be reconfirmed before ordering. Keep the approved technical submittal with the commercial quote, including model-specific warranty duration, coverage and claim process.
No finished BOQ yet?
Send the latest plan, a room list or marked-up photos and explain what is still undecided. We can discuss which details are needed next. An early estimate should identify assumptions; a final order should resolve them.
Your next step
Let’s make the brief clear.
Send the details you have. We will discuss the missing information and confirm the scope, selected models and quotation details with you.
